What is the cloud and why is it important?

You will here the cloud referred to by people as if it is a special place, but realistically its just a term to reference that the data is stored on multiple computers off site.

As the internet got bigger and the costs of storage got smaller companies started offering customers the ability to store data and files on their servers. The advantage of this is that these servers are stored in a purpose built environment, with air conditioning and redundant power supplies as well as very fast connections. The data is stored on lots of computers which are all replicated to other computers so losing data becomes almost impossible.

Solity stores all it’s systems in the cloud and to be extra safe we backup all the databases every night.
